Ultimately she and other British subjects were taken to a 'camp' and held incommunicado with the exception of a Red Cross visit. She was able to escape the camp with the help of a villager who delivered supplies to the camp and ultimately walked over the border to Switzerland. She spent her youth traveling post war Europe, taking various 'international' jobs due to her language proficiency (translator, UNICEF, teacher) and ultimately met and married Landreth Matthrew Harrison who was with the USA Dept of State.
